all in a day's work...

i want so badly to sit down and write here for hours, divulging all my thoughts and feelings about this amazing (and amazingly hard) journey/transition we are on...but, i just don't seem to find any time, or energy, right now. it is what it is. so let it suffice to post a short update i just posted to Facebook tonight...

there are always victories and setbacks, aren't there.

victories: two nights of NO CRYING and easy rocking to sleep - yay! ( a huge answer to prayer)
setbacks? well, playing with food rather than eating it, and  the "let me have what i want" tantrums continue and increase -- some real testing of us, i believe; and last night, the waking at 3:25 a.m., done sleeping for the night. Yikes --what's THAT? we are hoping to NOT have a repeat of that tonight.

sigh. it's all in a day's work of becoming a new parent, with a little boy that's also newly become a son. we can't forget the huge transition he's going through, and we try to remind ourselves of that often. :-]) there are still plenty of smiles, giggles, and sooo much learning each day...and i think overall, we're all doing OK. just gotta take it one day at a time and know that things will settle in more and more as we go along...

i'm thinking of my friends the floyd/leggetts, and the coles, who are all traveling to pick up their kiddos this week...wow, so many joyful (and challenging) transitions ahead of all of them (all of us!). but it's what we've all been waiting and preparing for, so we know it is worth it. :-) and when we look at their beautiful little sleeping faces or their bright smiling eyes, we won't question that--no matter how hard it feels or how much we might long for an hour to ourselves or how tired we are. ;-] we'll see them for the gift that they are and be thankful ...and pray for strength and wisdom to be a good mommy during tomorrow's challenges.

  1. Sandy, just so you know, the testing of Mom and Dad continues. My children find a way to test me on a daily basis. So...choose your battles wisely.

  2. I have no doubt that you are becoming a wonderful mommy! None the less, you continue to be in my prayers as you grow into this amazing new role. Much love from Lithuania!

  3. As a preschool teacher, I can tell you that they DEFINITELY try to test Mom and Dad the MOST! So, congratulations! It sounds like you are going through healthy, normal bonding with your son as he is feeling safe enough to test you as such. A calm, quiet but firm voice is very helpful! You must never let them know that you can be anything, but calm. No problem! You are great at acting! It comes in handy as a parent! Ha! Just keep repeating to yourself, "I am in control. I am in control. He will NOT see me lose my cool." It IS emotionally healthy to talk to yourself, by the way. : ) You're doing great! Hang-in-there!
