day 6...sick hubby, grouchy baby, and bogus bowling!

the skinny:
-Rob is still sick, has a fever :-( we started him on the antibiotics we brought...we'll see. please continue to pray for him. he stayed in the room all day
- grouchy baby. found out baby A has a grouchy, fussy side that showed up about 45 minutes into things; let's just say the 1.5 hours couldn't end soon enough! i hope tomorrow will be better.
- i went bowling! we had a good time and the food was great. it was a nice diversion, but i missed rob not being there. he's really tired of being sick. :-(

the fatty:
well, rob spent basically the whole day in the room; wasn't even able to go to the baby home with me because he had a fever. he has a lot of congestion in his chest so we decided to having him start taking the antibiotics we brought along for him root canal in the event that he'd get an infection. i gave him tylenol and by the time he went to bed the fever was gone - but it was back this morning (sunday) ;-(  (he's really tired of being sick now).

we ate some ramen noodle type soup for lunch and i headed to the baby home with the other family, without Rob. and let's just say, i got a taste of grouchy baby today. baby A was crying when we got there, but played quite nicely with me for the first 45 minutes. after that though it was pretty well over, and nothing satisfied him.  he was either not feeling well, overstimulated, getting too much attention, tired, or some combo of the two. the caretaker said "he isn't always sweet and happy; sometimes he's naughty too!" ah, how comforting. is this a sign that the terrible twos are not far away? anyway, i had the somber realization that toddlers have never been my preferred age group, and that i probably have a rough adjustment ahead. ackk! God, please give me strength... ;-p hopefully tomorrow will be a better day, and hopefully rob will be with me.

tonight i went with the other families to a bowling alley! we bowled two games and had supper, and let me tell you, that was the best food we have had yet. it was quite fun and a nice change, but it would have been better had Rob been able to join us. :-(

delicious. so homemade.

funny moments: seeing all of us trying to get bowling shoes that fit - I wish we could have videotaped that. they stuck me out front b/c i knew the most russian - yeah right! i knew numbers, but none of us knew our exact european shoe size, but i had no idea how to say bigger or smaller, plus all the shoes were stretched out, so there we are using hand gestures to try to say things like "too big" or "i need smaller shoes" - oh, it was just a riot. words don't do justice. each of us must have tried on at least three or four pairs.
we went through the same thing with a waitress and finally just asked for a good "kuritso" dish - chicken, and a good "beef" dish and ordered several of each. we struck gold. they were delish!! we made sure to note what we'd ordered so we can go back there to eat.

bowling was fun, but per usual, i bowled horribly. on my way out the door rob told me "bowl my temperature." (102!) i didn't even get close...maybe if you add the two games together... ;-p

  1. Hope those antibiotics start working for Roband that he's feeling better soon!! I know it's no fun being sick in a foreign country! If the meds don't help him, I have heard that a trip to the local hospital isn't all that expensive, even if they have to do some of what we would think back home to be expensive stuff (a family there recently went I think they said they ended up paying about $25). Just so you know that you have another option....
Just wanted to make a suggestion for baby A... if you think maybe he's getting a little overstimulated if there's another couple in there with you bonding with another child, you might want to ask if you can take him to the music room for some quiet time. It's on the second floor by the birdcage. We were never allowed to use it cause we always had our visitation time in the morning when the room was being used, and Cecelia was fighting off a cold. But know of other families that we allowed to "spread out" in there. =) It doesn't hurt to ask.....
Praying for Rob and baby A to have better days this week! Oh, and I think tomorrow is Women's day, so Happy Women's day to you!! =)

  2. Thanks Sandy, for such honest updates about your experience. As Susie wrote on an earlier post, it helps us know how to pray. I'm so glad you have people to confide in who've been through what you're going through and are able to give helpful input. What a blessing! We are praying that Rob feels better and stays better soon (today!). :) We prayed for you and Rob and baby A in baby's room Tuesday night. We love and miss you!

  3. Hi again! I can so relate to your experience bowling. It's usually by chance if I get a good score. FYI: I am trying to troubleshoot to find out why I wasn't able to comment on your blog in the past. (That is why I sent a comment through the wedigdave address.) I think I have the problem figured out now. We'll see.
    Bless you! Bonnie

  4. Paula, thanks so much for the suggestions from a veteran! We may ask about the music room, it would be great to see it anyway.

yesterday went MUCH better; we concentrated on one toy at a time, and when A gets interested he really has a great attention span. maybe saturday was just a bad day for him.

    thanks for the encouragement!

  5. bonnie, thank you for the continual encouragement and prayers...that means so much, and also that you prayed in A's room, that is just great!
rob is still sick, that low-grade fever comes back whenever we take him off the tylenol. sigh...but we trust God is giving us all we need despite the nagging, coughing virus. still lots to be grateful for.

love you and miss you too!--i really find myself missing LifeSpring and home now...sigh...only 8 weeks to go, if i make it that long. may decided to come home for the weeks in between, we'll see.

  7. They might let you take A outside if the weather is decent. We put our boys in snow suits, hats, the whole nine yards and they let us go out. Not sure what the temperature is right now but over time, it might be a possibility!
