where does time go? it seems i've been really busy since returning from PA...here i haven't even posted photos from my time there, let alone any of the deeper thoughts that have been going through my mind. well, here are some more great people and friends that i got to spend time with a few weeks ago in Lancaster...
tim and kirsten and their adorable baby Sebastian. tim and i go back a long ways...EMU, the STAT program, directing YES BC together in British Columbia in the 90's, and then on staff together at Global for several years...he and kirsten got married a year after rob and me. the other couple is dory and mervin. i'dmet mervin a few times, but hadn't met dory before. great couple whom i'd enjoy getting to know more. we enjoyed some good "so how did you meet your spouse" talk over Thai food one night.
sebastian is just one of the cutest little buttons ever!well, this little button is probably equally cute...
since we seem to be on a baby theme, here is baby Benson, the other little dish i got to meet. Jenny is another friend from Global disciples staff, and she and Nate named their little guy after Benson Ekuwom--the Desert Boy video guy, for anyone you who have seen the video we produced a few years ago. (check it out at www.justadesertboy.com if you haven't seen it before)
he's a super happy little fellow, just adorable.
here he is with my supervisor, Jim

you know, one of my friends asked me how it was to be with babies, she thought it might be hard for me to see benson and sebastian...i can't say there weren't some pangs in me as i played with them and held them--but i am so grateful that i was just able to enjoy them--truly enjoy them. my heart does cry out for one of my own, but i'd rather run into the ache than away from it, and being with babies right now, like talia, and these two little tikes--it actually keeps something in me alive that might otherwise wither; i don't know, is it mothering instincts? maybe it keeps me from becoming hardened ... i really don't want to become bitter.
my beautiful friend felixa, whom i've known since our YES training days in Baltimore, 1997. she also served on Global staff for a couple years. she took me to a cool little Latin/Creole place in Lancaster City for lunch. it was great. a little lean on the vegetables, perhaps, but, yucca is a vegetable, right? delicious.
the guava juice rocked the house.
i am really grateful for these opportunities to reconnect with old friends. i suppose, i owe that in part to my work with Global Disciples, without which i surely would not get back to PA as often as i do (not that i get back that often!) there is something special about the lancaster area, i must admit; there is a really peaceful and blessed God-presence there. i don't know how else to say it, but there are just a LOT of salt of the earth types around that area, and it seems God is always at work in and through them in visible and even tangible ways. i always feel so blessed when i've had the opportunity to be out there and rub shoulders with my friends and co-workers from that part of the world.
this time in particular, being with all of them--enjoying their friendship and letting their faith minister to me--felt like a gift. thank you, Lord.
